Updates for April 6, 2020

We are recognizing the dedicated service of our staff. They are frequently flexing into new roles as we adapt. Heroes they are !

We are pleased to report that we are carrying on with modified services to residents as well as finding creative ways to stay entertained and lift spirits.

Food is being delivered; they can order groceries through Kendal; the fitness facilities are available for use in solitude only – but they are still available; movies and other distractions are being shown on our in-house TV, as well as video versions of fitness classes and wellness programming. We have a world-renowned keyboard performer who is donating recordings he’s made with musicians around the world for re-broadcast.

Some of our preparations are getting quite sophisticated. For example, we now have two rooms in the nursing home ready to covert to negative pressure rooms if we needed to isolate any positive cases. We are constantly re-calculating the amount of the various PPE (an new acronym many of us have learned – personal protective equipment – masks, gowns, face shields) we have, again in preparation for the time we’ll be delivering care with the highest levels of infection prevention for both staff and residents.

We are communicating with the CCRCs in NYS, about half of which are in ‘hot spots’. Despite that, they report low numbers of positives and very few deaths. Each has offered mutual aid to the others.

Stay in touch. You can reach us through the website, email and the good, old telephone, 607-266-5300.
