COVID 19 Update for October 11, 2020

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through our positive COVID test result.  So far, there have been no additional positive test results.  We are implementing the following steps out of an abundance of caution:

  • -Residents who were in the Café between 7am and 3pm this past week (Monday – Friday) are welcome to schedule a COVID test with Resident Care – please call 266-5332 after 8am Monday to schedule an appointment.  We do not believe that any residents had a high risk exposure to the positive employee, but want to offer testing for anyone who is concerned.
  • -Staff who had contact with the positive employee at meal or break times are currently out of work pending negative test results.
  • -All Kendal at Ithaca staff will be tested on Monday and Tuesday and again before the end of week.
  • -All Health Center residents will be offered testing – in accordance with regulation.  No Health Center residents had contact with the positive employee.
  • -The Health Center will be closed to in-person visits for two weeks.  This is consistent with regulatory guidance, and not because we feel there is significant exposure risk to the residents.
  • -The Café and Windows will remain closed until all staff have 2 negative tests.

I can share, with the employee’s permission, that the employee with a positive test result is asymptomatic and feeling fine – we are very grateful for that! Please continue to monitor yourself for symptoms.  If you are a resident and not feeling well, please immediately quarantine and call Resident’s Care to report your symptoms. If you are an employee and not feeling well, please stay home and call your supervisor.

I will continue with daily updates for the next few days.  We are hopeful that these cautionary steps will help us to contain this positive result and prevent any spread on campus.
