Kendal at Ithaca Update for October 27, 2020

No new positive cases today for residents or staff. Good news!

We’ve received 157 staff results today, all negative.  We have not received any of the Health Center resident results yet. We expect 11 furloughed staff back to work by the end of the week, which will relieve some of the stress on staff and management – particularly in Dining.

The New Normal committee met today and brainstormed ways that they might support Health Center residents during this very isolating time.  They’ll be working with Health Center staff and residents and reaching out to Independent Living residents to brainstorm some ideas.

I had a resident reach out and ask “What is PPE?” Thanks for that question!

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration provides this explanation:

Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as “PPE”, is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. This refers to the gloves, masks (both surgical and N95), face shields, goggles and gowns that staff use to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID19.
