Taking the steps toward a smaller eco footprint.
Kendal at Ithaca’s commitment to environmental stewardship is reflected in the engineering of the new apartment building. All of the materials and construction techniques used will be consistent with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. To do this, plans must include:
Integrated Design Process — Project team incorporates a Green Development Plan.
Location and Linkages — Building and construction are happening in a socially and environmentally responsible way.
Sustainable Sites — Using a low-impact approach to landscaping that promotes a healthy ecosystem.
Water Efficiency — Install fixtures and appliances that reduce water and consumption.
Energy Efficiency — Install high-efficiency windows, insulation, heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) units, appliances and lighting.
Materials and Resources — Reduce waste and limit the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Indoor Environmental Quality — Protect air quality by managing pollutants.
Ongoing Awareness and Education — Residents and staff receive training in proper maintenance of all equipment as well as sustainable strategies for housekeeping and landscaping.
Kendal has twice been recognized as a “Sign of Sustainability” in Tompkins County.
