Both Kendal at Ithaca,
Inc. and the Residents' Association of Kendal at Ithaca, Inc.
are not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporations. Gifts made to either
can qualify as charitable donations. Gifts may be designated for
a specific fund already established by Kendal at Ithaca, or may
be restricted to a purpose which is mutually agreed upon between
the donor and Kendal at Ithaca. These donations can take any of
several forms:
Unrestricted donations
are those donated without specification of a particular
use by the donor. Kendal at Ithaca can use the money for any purpose
it wishes.
Restricted donations
are designated by the donor in writing for a specific
purpose. An example of this is the Resident's Reserve Fund, which
has been set up to provide charitable assistance to those who
outlive their assets. Other campaigns have been conducted for
such specific projects as the tennis courts, the grand piano,
the perimeter walkway and the putting green. A Kendal at Ithaca
Scholarship fund at Cornell University is also sustained by donations.
Memorials and gifts are
a way to pay tribute to those who have died or to honor a special
occasion in the life of a person. The Memorial and Gifts Committee
of the Residents' Council maintains a list of possible gifts and
describes the procedures to be followed.
Pooled income funds are
administered both at the local and the corporate levels.
Designations for a specific purpose or a specific
Kendal community can be made in these funds.
Residents of Kendal at
Ithaca conduct an annual Thanksgiving Offering. The funds are
then donated to a local not-for-profit organization, selected
by the residents. About 10 local groups have been given significant
funds from this offering.
