Volunteers have a very important role in the life of Kendal residents and in the larger community as well. It is not uncommon for people to say, “I am working harder now than when I was employed.” This is not a complaint, but proof of how many interesting and fulfilling volunteer opportunities there are.

One resident of Kendal wanted to insure that when people moved to the Health Center, they continued to feel a part of the Kendal community. She and over 40 others created One Kendal, a group dedicated to enhancing the lives of people living in our Health Center and to involving them in all aspects of life at Kendal.

Volunteers at Kendal are present in every area. The Community Center reflects the efforts of many in decorating, house plant maintenance, interesting lectures and presentations, library activities, poster creation and transportation to various events.

The giving of time is, however, just as often quietly done with no recognition. Weeding a garden for an ill friend, assisting with pet care when someone is traveling, or offering a ride are common occurrences.

Kendal residents and staff also donate their time to the larger community. People from Kendal serve on Boards of Directors, do tutoring, work at fund raising events, and generally do the unpaid work which keeps many not for profit agencies running.
